Day 1

Arrival in Kigali and Leisure Time Upon your arrival at Kigali airport, you will receive a warm welcome and be escorted to your hotel. Take this day to relax and enjoy the amenities of your chosen accommodation.

Day 2

Chimpanzee Trekking and Exploration After a delicious breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route, visit the ancient Rwandan Kings' royal palaces in Nyanza and the Butare National Museum. As you continue to Nyungwe Forest, marvel at its stunning natural beauty and diverse wildlife. Nyungwe is a precious rainforest, serving as a vital conservation area in Central Africa.

Day 3

Crossing the Border to Congo After breakfast, we will cross the border into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at Grande Barriére. Our destination is Mikeno Lodge, located adjacent to Virunga National Park. Virunga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is situated in the eastern part of the DRC, sharing borders with Uganda and Rwanda. It is the oldest national park in Africa and boasts incredible biodiversity. The park spans across 7,800 square kilometers, featuring forests, savannas, lava plains, swamps, and volcanoes. Virunga is renowned for its population of critically endangered mountain gorillas, making it the only park in the world to host three taxa of Great Apes.

Day 4

Gorilla Trekking Experience- After an early breakfast, proceed to the park office to complete the gorilla trekking registration process. Once assigned a gorilla group to visit, join the park rangers and set off on an incredible adventure. The trek may require 1-2 hours of hiking, depending on the gorillas' location and the terrain's difficulty. To ensure the gorillas' health and safety, visitors are provided with surgical masks to wear during the encounter. Spending time with the gorillas is limited to one hour. It's important to prioritize the gorillas' well-being by refraining from the trek if you are feeling unwell. After this unforgettable experience, return to your lodge.

Day 5

Hike to Mount Nyiragongo and Lava Lake Observation Today, embark on a hike to Mount Nyiragongo, a magnificent stratovolcano known for its awe-inspiring lava lake, the largest of its kind in the world. The lower slopes of the volcano are covered in lush forests, inhabited by various animals such as chimpanzees, monkeys, and bushbucks. At the summit, witness the mesmerizing sight of a churning lava lake and hear the sounds of hot gases exploding through the molten lava. While eruptions of Nyiragongo are predictable and safe for tourists, the volcano's lava flows can be exceptionally fast due to its low silica content. The trek to the summit starts at the Kibati patrol post, approximately 30 minutes from Goma.

Day 6

Descend from Nyiragongo and Boat Ride to Tchegera Island After descending from Mount Nyiragongo, continue your journey with a scenic boat ride to Tchegera Island. This beautiful island, with its crescent shape formed by the rim of an extinct volcano, offers breathtaking views of Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira volcanoes. On clear nights, witness the stunning spectacle of glowing red lava against the starry sky. Tchegera Island's calm waters are perfect for paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkeling. Explore the unique marine life, including 24 species of fish and 2 species of endemic crabs found in Lake Kivu.

Day 7

Departure from DRC and Drive to Musanze Bid farewell to the Democratic Republic of Congo and begin your journey back to Musanze in Rwanda.

Day 8

Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park After an early breakfast, set off on gorilla trekking experience. Once assigned a gorilla group, venture into Volcanoes National Park accompanied by park rangers. Volcanoes National Park, located in northwestern Rwanda, is a haven for mountain gorillas. It is home to five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains, covered in lush rainforests and bamboo. The park holds historical significance as the base for the renowned American naturalist, Dian Fossey, during her groundbreaking research on gorillas.

Day 9

Golden Monkey Trekking and Return to Kigali After breakfast, embark on a trek to observe the rare golden monkeys, an endemic species found in the eastern rift. The trek takes you deep into the forest, offering a unique opportunity to witness these fascinating primates in their natural habitat. Following the trek, enjoy lunch at your lodge before driving back to Kigali. Take advantage of the journey to capture the scenic landscapes through your lens.

Day 10

Drive to Akagera National Park After breakfast, depart for Akagera National Park via Kigali. Upon reaching Kigali, embark on a city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial site. After lunch, continue your journey to Akagera National Park. As you enter the park, prepare to immerse yourself in its diverse ecosystems, including savannahs, mountains, and swamps. Akagera is renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich wildlife, providing an exceptional safari experience.

Day 11

Full Day Safari in Akagera National Park Begin your day with an early breakfast before embarking onan exciting full-day safari in Akagera National Park. Set off on game drives, accompanied by experienced guides, to explore the park's diverse fauna. Keep your eyes peeled for magnificent animals such as buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and a plethora of bird species that inhabit the savannah. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the park's natural surroundings and capture unforgettable wildlife encounters through your camera lens. After an exhilarating day, return to your lodge to relax and reflect on your wildlife adventures.

Day 12

Drive back to Kigali and Afternoon City Tour Bid farewell to Akagera National Park and embark on a scenic drive back to Kigali. Upon arrival, indulge in a city tour, where you will discover the vibrant culture and history of Rwanda's capital. Visit notable sites, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, to gain a deeper understanding of the country's past and present. Immerse yourself in the local atmosphere and savor the diverse culinary offerings of Kigali.

Day 13

Leisure Day and Departure Preparation. Take this day to relax and enjoy your last moments in Rwanda at your own pace. Reflect on the incredible experiences and memories you have made throughout your journey. In the afternoon, prepare for your return flight, ensuring all necessary arrangements are in order. Depart Rwanda with a sense of fulfillment and a treasure trove of unforgettable moments.
